Place of the month

For many of us, this kind of application is irresistible.  Any way to get our busy lives organized and made easier is a good thing.  This Martha Stewart sponsored application enables you to share your shopping lists with family members who can add their items.  A ZipList iPhone “app” facilitates mobile sharing.

I set up two lists to check out ZipList; a grocery list and a personal products list. I selected four stores to shop from; my local DeCicco market (used for quick stops,  fresh produce, and hot food bar), my Super Stop and Shop (located 10 minutes from my home and used for my big grocery orders), my local CVS, and my local independent pharmacy. Each item on each list can be assigned to one store. The list is then organized by store categories (aisles in the store) to make shopping easier.

Once I invited my husband to the shopping list, it grew  in leaps and bounds.  Since it appears that I will be going to the Stop and Shop earlier than expected, I emailed the list to my gmail account to avail myself of the first opportunity to stop for groceries.

In just the first half hour using ZipList, I experienced two problems.  First, If you use multiple stores, you cannot assign the same item to two stores.  I really don’t care where I buy my milk so I would like to have it on both of my supermarket lists.  Then I will get it the next time I go to either store. The solution is to NOT assign it to a store.  Then it appears on both lists.

Second, if  you shop online, such as online at CVS, then there is time wasted duplicating lists. Since the application recognizes CVS and knows  the products that are offered by CVS, I would like an interface to the CVS online store, where I can avail myself of significant discounts.

I expect, through usage that more issues will surface.  I have used this category of product before and find that they are usually underdeveloped.  Web2themag.com will watch this product and report on its development.
